My name is Shelli Campbell and I am the teacher/owner of Learn & Grow Preschool.   I am a licensed teacher with a degree in Elementary Education and an emphasis in Early Childhood Education.  I have been teaching preschool  for the past fifteen years. Before I taught preschool I taught kindergarten for three years.  I have kept current on my license and the trends of education so I can make sure I know the current expectations your child will face in  kindergarten.

The goal of my preschool is to help your child prepare for school while having a great deal of fun!  I teach the basics of being in a classroom, like raising your hand, following directions and lining up.  I also focus on how to respect others, share and play cooperatively.  We do art projects, sing, dance, learn nursery rhymes, read books and  have science experiences!

Academically, I  introduce and help the children become familiar with the letters of the alphabet so they are comfortable using them in a variety of ways.  We work on recognizing letters, identifying sounds, writing, and we even learn sight words!   Pre-math skills of classifying, counting, patterns and spatial relations are also emphasized.  We do this through hands on activities and games.

I have two years of curriculum that I rotate so that children will be able to come to Learn & Grow preschool for both their three* and four year old years.  I have found success in having mixed ages in class, as the children help each other learn.  I  scaffold the activities so children at various abilities can find success and be challenged  based on their current level.

Want a little more information?

Learn and Grow Preschool closely follows the Washington County School District calendar.  We do a have a few exceptions- we start the last Tuesday in August (usually 2 weeks after the district) and end the 3rd week in May (one week before the school district). Sometimes depending on the calendar, we take a few more days for Christmas and Thanksgiving vacation.  Tuition is collected September through May (not in August to give Shelli an option for a couple of sick days). Tuition is the same each month no matter how many preschool days there are in the month.

Calendars:  A two sided calendar will be sent home monthly. It will include our themes, snack turns, letters of the week, special notes, and school vacations  Please keep the calendar in a safe place and look at it more than once a month, as there will be days when your child will need to bring something . These days will be marked with a ***.

Snack:The children will take turns bringing home the snack bucket. They love this responsibility and ask me daily when it will be their turn.  *If your child has a major allergy or food restriction (ie gluten free) you will need to provide your own snacks for the days that the snack is not safe for your child.

Recess: We have an outdoor recess every day unless it is raining. Keep this in mind when selecting clothing for the day. For the most part, if your child is well enough to go to school , they are well enough to go outside.

Homework: I only get these little ones 5 hours a week, so I hope that you will be working with them on reinforcing the things we are learning at school. To aid you in this I have several “homework” items. These are not to add stress to your life. They are to give you direction in working with your child and they are fun for the kids with treats and a party as incentives to participate. The following are items that you will see come home. More information on each item will be given later: Lending Library- A book will go home with each child on Thursday and you read it to them over the weekend and return it on Tuesday. Homework cards small tasks that your child can work on as homework. Sight word sentence reading pages, at home child read reading books and/or activity bags may also be offered on an individual basis.

Field Trips:  Most of our learning will be at school although we usually have one field trip during the year.  Each year it varies due to the individual children and the opportunities that arise.  I will inform parents of upcoming events as we get close to each event. Your skills and ideas are appreciated! If you have an idea for a field trip or a visitor who could enrich our class let me know!

Volunteers: It makes a huge difference in the activities that we can do during centers when we have volunteers help out. The volunteering takes place the last 45 minutes of the day only during center time. Please check your schedule and decide if you can help. I appreciate the help so much. I thank those who volunteer by discounting $10 from their monthly tuition. Our tuition is $75, but with your discount you will pay $65!  How it works: For the Aug/Sept. discount all you have to do is use the Signup Genius link sign up for one day each month of the year.  If you have signed up one day a month for the whole year by the first day of school you have earned $10 off your September tuition! Then, for the rest of the year you can take $10 off your monthly tuition  if you  helped on your day the month prior.  If a scheduling conflict comes up in the month you may contact another parent and switch your day. Just make sure you get at least one day in each month to receive your discount.
